A disastrous debut for new keeper Josh Lennie,
together with an inept display by others, cost the Reserves any chance of
winning the League title after this 4-1 drubbing in a top of the table
clash.
The game was only six minutes old when
Beaconsfield were awarded a free kick some 30 yards from goal. The keeper
decided to stand on the six-yard line and Tom Wilmont thundered his shot
directly over the keeper’s hands.
Courtney Francis hit the post in the 13th
minute and Woods had a lot of play in the Beaconsfield area, but couldn’t
take their chances. Beaconsfield’s management encouraged their players to
bombard the Woods defence with high balls, as they were having difficulty
dealing with them.
They paid a heavy price for this as Pat
Lawrence gathered a ball on the edge of the box after another long pass
downfield caught Woods defence flat-footed, and he swivelled before putting
Beaconsfield 2-0 up.
However, a light at the end of the tunnel
appeared when Solomon Henry eventually got the ball under control and shot
Woods back into the game on 36 minutes.
Unfortunately within a minute another long ball
down the middle led the score to go 3-1 in favour of the away team.
Hesitancy by the keeper, who should have come for the ball but changed his
mind, gave Antony Moran an easy lob into the net.
Then two minutes later the keeper had to be
brave when diving at the feet of Moran to stop another goal.
The second half was evenly fought but
Beaconsfield wrapped up a good win on 59 minutes when Andy Currell headed
home from another long distance free kick.
A very disappointing end to the season after
all the hard work getting so close.
Man of the Match: James Crockford.
